![]() Cotto was a physical education teacher for eight years in the Rochester City School District where he taught and coached at both the elementary and secondary level. Cotto moved to Rochester, NY in 1998, where he began his career in education as a physical education teacher. was born and raised in Lowell, Massachusetts. She is a proud Latina leader, who has the passion and drive to help all students succeed. Perez is a proud alumni of the Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents (ALAS) Cohort IV. Since 2005, she has served in positions such as Assistant Principal, Program Administrator, Acting Principal, Freshman Academy Director and Executive Director. ![]() Throughout her professional career, Maycanitza has devoted her talents to serving Rochester students, spending five years as a teacher of Spanish at Thomas Jefferson Middle School and East High School. Perez received a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish, a Master’s degree in Secondary Education and an Administrative certification from the University of Rochester. Perez is a native of Rochester, a graduate of East High School and Monroe Middle School, attending Schools #28 and #9 and schools in Salinas, Puerto Rico, in her early years. Maycanitza Perez is an Upper School Vice Principal for scholars with the last names O-Z at East. We serve as the professional organization for educational leaders across New York who are Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, Principals, Directors, Assistant Principals, and overall leaders and aspiring leaders. ![]() The mission of NYSALAS is to advocate for aspiring and current Latino and Latina administrators by promoting best practices, professional learning, communication, and networking to support the growing Latino community throughout New York State. NYSALAS was formally established in the summer of 2019. The organizing members received support from our national organization. It hoped that the Association would generate wings to success for Latino educators and the students we serve throughout the state of New York.
